Just before 7am on New Years Eve 2018. A time for many, I’m sure, to reflect on the year that is drawing to a close. It is at this time that we often see photographers post their favourite or most liked images of the year, so I thought I would also put together a small collection of my own favourite images.
2018 was a difficult year in a number of ways, but also the year that we took delivery of our VW Camper Van allowing us to explore some fantastic locations all over the UK. I had forgotten just how beautiful the UK and Ireland is and we are very much looking forward to exploring more of our homeland over the coming 12 months.
According to Lightroom I have approx 1600 images created in 2018 (actually probably a heck of a lot more when you consider those culled) and from this I’ve narrowed it down to 20 of my favourite ones. As I look back over these images I realise my love of them is not often to do with the final image itself, rather the story behind it.. The walks walked, the people met, the adventure shared.
And that really is what it’s all about after all.
Those stories. Those memories. From hunkered down in the van while the Beast from the East rattled the windows outside, to calm misty mornings overlooking ancient castles. Windswept beaches in the Outer Hebrides to sharing stories of travel and adventure around a feast of cheese at the Bird Fair. And of course not forgetting some incredible moments with wildlife including 12 (yes 12) Golden Eagle sightings in the Outer Hebrides, some of the best views of Otters and Sea Eagles on Mull and of course the majestic Red Deer roaring through the mist in the Highlands of Scotland.
So here’s to 2019 where once again it will be less about the final image and more about getting outside, going in search of adventure and most of all creating memories with family and friends.
Happy New Year Folks ….
